There's been a drought where I live and every time rain has been forecasted, it's passed us by. All the grass is baked by the sun and the leaves started dying and falling off due to heat and lack of water. I kind of assumed everything would continue to dry and there'd be a bad wildfire.
Finally, the other evening, I heard the sound of rain beginning to fall! I sat on the porch for a minute because I haven't smelled rain in forever. It was so peaceful and I'm really grateful it finally came. It seems that now the weather'll finally begin to feel more like autumn... and by that I mean 80-90 degrees fahrenheit :') Regardless, I do really like rainy weather, so I'm glad we'll be getting more of that!

I went to a convention for the first time with two of my friends and one of their sisters!
The con I went to was pretty general (comics, anime, general animation, etc.), but I still found a lot of anime-related booths and events:) I went to see a panel with some VAs, which was cool. I also bought a Samurai Champloo poster in the artist alley!
It was definitely more corporate than I'd have expected, but I still had a lot of fun. I cosplayed Kobeni from Chainsaw Man and was able to get a photo with an Angel Devil cosplayer, which was awesome! It was only my second time cosplaying, and my first time as an adult/at a convention, so being around more experienced cosplayers was kind of intimidating. They looked very cool and I'm always impressed with how well they can do makeup (I pretty much never wear it, so it's very foreign to me lol).
My one regret is seeing someone in a Subaru Natsuki cosplay and not asking for a photo with him... Tbf he was talking with some friends and I had to pass by quickly bc it was a crowded aisle, but still!! I also saw a Maes Hughes cosplayer and a Chuuya cosplayer I definitely should have asked as well, but didn't even think to ask until it was too late! Fml...
There was also some merch I was hoping to find of specific anime that just...wasn't there. I hope to go to a more anime-specific con in the future because I assume there'll be more of a variety. I was pretty surprised there wasn't more FMA merch, but I suppose a lot of vendors at this con focus on currently airing shows, as well as the big 3 ofc.
Speaking of the big 3 merch, why is there hardly any Bleach merch available in anime stores in comparison to One Piece and Naruto? At the ones I go to, there's usually a LOT of One Piece merch and some Naruto merch (tho the amount does vary for that one), and nothing for Bleach. I guess One Piece is ongoing, so that might be part of it, but if you have a bit of Naruto merch, why not Bleach too? Whatever...
For the next con I go to, I think I'm going to try and go multiple days and do multiple cosplays.

The other day I went to see Akira at a nearby theater! It's been playing for its anniversary and since I've only seen it once before, I wanted to watch it again. It ended up being good that I did, because the first time I watched a DVD rip, which was... not the best quality... But after seeing the movie a second time, I enjoyed it much more and followed the story better! It's also been remastered (4k I believe), so it looked especially good on screen.
There was only me and two other people in the theater, probably since it was a matinee. It was really nice that way though! I just sat in the back row and drank a coffee while watching.
The commercials before Akira were wayy more interesting to me than most previews, but maybe it's just because they're more tailored to anime viewers. They showed several foreign films I didn't know were coming out (Hope and a new Ramayana movie). Hope looked really interesting, but I'm not always great with violence/gore, so I probably won't see that one. I've seen the 1993 animated Ramayana, so I recognized the characters and story during the new Ramayana preview. I probably won't see it either, mainly because the animated version was so good and the new one looks veryy CGI-heavy. Also Silent Hill movie in November?? Never played it, so I'm not planning to see it, but I know my brother's excited for it.
This was definitely one of my best theater experiences and would highly recommend going to see Akira if you can!

I went to a matinee (Finding Emily) after class and the theatre was near empty. This kind of surprised me because I purchased a ticket 5 minutes before the movie started. The movie was alright. I liked the protagonist, the costume design was excellent, and the colors were really vivid and pretty. The actors did a great job in their roles as well!
I definitely think the online segments are going to be very dated in a few years, so the movie would have been better off without those portions. There were also multiple character conclusions that I don't believe were done well. They felt fairly abrupt since those characters basically never got consequences for slander and harrassment. I was really excited to watch this one so I did feel a bit disappointed, but it still ended up being pretty okay.

Afterwards, I went to a bookstore and finally found a book on the Mongol Empire! I've been searching for a book on this for months now :') I'm reading two manga right now that take place in the Mongol Empire, so it's made me want to learn more about it (manga are Shut Hell and A Witch's Life in Mongol).
